Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word.
  • EN:
    “If the submission language is Spanish, you must also provide Title, Abstract and Keywords in English.”
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

General Requirements
BioNatura Journal is a Diamond Open Access journal with no APCs or submission fees. Manuscripts may be submitted in English or Spanish.

Language & Metadata Policy (Required)

  • If the full text is submitted in Spanish, authors must also provide the following metadata in English: Title, Abstract, and Keywords.

  • If the full text is submitted in English, Spanish translations of these metadata are optional.

Manuscript Structure

  • Research Articles: Must follow the IMRAD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion).

Article Types

  • Research Highlights: Concise summaries (300–500 words) of high-impact external research, strictly reserved for editorial selection.

References

  • Must follow Vancouver style.

Ethical & Transparency Requirements

  • ORCID: All authors must provide their ORCID iD during submission (when available).

  • AI Disclosure: Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in drafting, editing, translation, figures, or data analysis. BioNatura follows transparency standards aligned with leading journals.

  • Ethics: Studies involving human or animal subjects must include an IRB/Ethics Committee approval statement and (when applicable) informed consent/animal welfare compliance.
