Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Scientific Manuscripts for Bionatura Journal

At Bionatura Journal, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and responsibility in scientific publishing. In alignment with international ethical guidelines, including those outlined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), we have established the following policy regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation and submission of manuscripts.

1. Declaration of AI Use
Authors must explicitly disclose the use of AI tools, including the name, version, and purpose of the software employed, at the time of manuscript submission. This information should be detailed in the appropriate sections of the manuscript, such as:
  • Materials and Methods: If AI was used for data analysis, figure generation, or other methodological steps.
  • Acknowledgments: If AI tools were used to assist with language editing, formatting, or other non-substantive tasks.
Failure to disclose the use of AI tools will be considered a violation of ethical standards.

2. AI and Authorship
In accordance with ICMJE recommendations, authorship requires substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the work, as well as accountability for the content. AI tools, while valuable in assisting with certain aspects of research or writing, cannot:
  • Be held accountable for the accuracy, originality, or integrity of the content.
  • Fulfill the criteria for authorship as defined by ICMJE.
Therefore, AI tools must not be listed as authors in any manuscript submitted to Bionatura Journal. All authors listed must be human contributors.

3. Responsibility and Oversight
Authors bear full responsibility for:
  • The content generated using AI tools.
  • Ensuring that the AI-generated material is accurate, adheres to scientific rigor, and complies with journal standards.
  • Verifying that AI tools do not introduce biases or inaccuracies into the manuscript.

4. Acceptable Uses of AI
The use of AI tools is acceptable for:
  • Language editing and grammar correction.
  • Initial drafting of summaries or non-critical sections, provided they are rigorously reviewed and revised by the authors.
  • Data analysis and visualization, where such tools have been thoroughly validated for scientific use.
Authors must clearly indicate these uses and retain full responsibility for the final manuscript.

5. Ethical Compliance
Authors must ensure that the use of AI complies with all ethical guidelines relevant to their field, including the proper handling of data and the avoidance of plagiarism or manipulation. AI tools must not be used to:
  • Fabricate, falsify, or manipulate data or results.
  • Generate content intended to deceive reviewers or readers.

6. Transparency and Editorial Review
The editorial team of Bionatura Journal reserves the right to:
  • Request additional information or clarification regarding the use of AI tools in the manuscript.
  • Reject submissions where undisclosed or unethical use of AI is detected.

By adhering to these policies, Bionatura Journal ensures that all published works reflect the highest standards of scientific integrity and uphold the trust of the academic community.
For questions or further clarification, please contact the editorial office.

This policy will be reviewed periodically to accommodate evolving standards and developments in AI technologies and ethical guidelines.
